Just to level set, the first frame is a medium (17") and ridden by a 180lb rider on light XC riding (no big drops, etc). The second is a large (19") frame ridden by a 190lb rider on same type of riding.

It will obviously have older geometry as compared to today's but for getting into the sport it looks more than capable if everything is working as intended.
